The origins of SEDICI84 date back to the late 1960s, when Mario Putignano began his professional journey as an apprentice in a tailor’s workshop in his hometown. Driven by a desire to develop his skills and deepen his knowledge of tailoring, Mario moved to Lausanne, Switzerland, where he continued his professional training, combining classroom education with hands-on experience. His career then brought him back to Italy, where he took on an important position at a leading manufacturing company in Brescia, specialised in outerwear production. There, he was entrusted with managing the entire production department, gaining valuable experience in industrial manufacturing and developing a broader understanding of the fashion production process. Despite his professional achievements, however, Mario’s connection to his homeland remained strong. After several successful years in Brescia, he made the decision to return to Puglia, where he transformed his passion and expertise into an entrepreneurial project of his own. He opened a small artisan workshop dedicated to creating entirely handmade, bespoke suits, putting tailoring craftsmanship and personal attention at the centre of every creation.

From artisan workshop to fashion manufacturing

Over time, Mario’s dedication and experience allowed the business to grow. His constant pursuit of excellence, combined with an ability to refine traditional techniques and explore new cuts and approaches, helped the company establish its own identity within the world of Italian high fashion. The small workshop gradually evolved into a structured manufacturing company, expanding its production capabilities and beginning to collaborate with several major fashion Maisons through contract manufacturing. Growth never meant leaving its origins behind. The knowledge acquired through years of tailoring remained at the heart of the company, becoming a distinctive asset that combined the precision of industrial production with the value of Italian craftsmanship.

At its peak, the company grew to employ up to 110 people, marking an important transformation from the original family workshop while maintaining the same commitment to quality that had guided Mario from the beginning. In the 1990s, Mario’s children joined the family business, becoming key figures in both production and management. Their arrival marked the beginning of a new chapter for the company: a generational transition that brought together the experience of the founder with a new perspective on the future of fashion manufacturing.

It was during this evolution that SEDICI84 was born.
